England 3 Belarus 0

England beat Belarus 3-0 last night at Wembley in an essentially meaningless World Cup qualifier. With Fabio Capello's team having already secured qualification the Italian could afford to give some fringe players their chance to stake a claim to a place on the plane to South Africa.

Peter Crouch looks like he'll be doing the robot in South Africa next summer after scoring a tidy brace which gives the beanpole striker a tally of 18 goals in just 17 starts for England. However, with Capello favouring the power and strength of Emile Heskey it looks as if Crouch will have to continue to settle for a role as super sub.

Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips also got in on the goals; the diminutive midfielder did well in the unfamiliar terrain of the left wing and the resurrection of his career after his nightmare spell at Chelsea appears complete.

David Beckham made a cameo appearance in the second half hitting the post with a shot late on as well as being involved in England's second and third goals. However, it came as something of a shock when the LA Galaxy midfielder was named man of the match after just 32 minutes on the field.

No one seemed more surprised by the choice of Becks than England boss Fabio Capello: "Yes I was a bit surprised," the Italian said. "I just thought it was like Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize after eight months as President of the United States. He gets the man of the match after 30 minutes here."
