England 16 Argentina 9

England earned their first victory of the autumn series with a 16-9 win over Argentina at Twickenham but the disjointed and lacklustre performance once again raised questions about the future of coach Martin Johnson.

Matt Banahan's try was the difference between the two sides in a game which the visitors didn't deserve to lose having missed six kicks at goal. The five pointer came at the end of a break from James Haskell and some slick interplay between Shane Geraghty and England's star man Lewis Moody who put Banahan into the corner to score.

Stand in out-half Martin Rodriguez kicked all of Argentina's points while the evergreen Jonny Wilkinson scored a drop goal and two penalties for the home side. While England's scrum just about held its own the coaching staff's biggest worry will be the lack of cohesion amongst the backs.

England will have to find another gear before next week if they are to avoid being blown away by a rampant looking All Blacks side at Twickenham.
