Edin Dzeko shines in Manchester City rout of Tottenham

Manchester City sent out a signal to the rest of the Premier League – and Europe – early yesterday afternoon, after they walloped poor Old Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at White Hart Lane, making Harry Redknapp's side look like the hopeless chancers all non-Spurs fans knew that they were.

City's star man, on a day of star performances, was Edin Dzeko, who scored four goals and looked like the star striker who lit up the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. After a rocky first few months the Bosnian is starting to hit his stride, and yesterday he looked like the complete package; his general play was excellent, and he made Matt Dawson look like the lumbering carthorse that all Tottenham fans know he is.

'I think the last time I scored four was for Wolfsburg in Germany,' the Bosnia-Herzegovina international said on ESPN. 'Today was something special for me, to score four goals in the Premier League is fantastic.

'I think we're getting better and better. I hope we can improve in the next game and try to win every game.'
