David Haye quits boxing

After all the fuss that surrounded his fight with Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko, and all the talk of a boxing legacy, it appears that David 'The Hayemaker' Haye has handed in his boxing license, meaning that he has effectively ended his career.

Haye, who turns 31 on Thursday, has always insisted that he wouldn't fight beyond that day, so the move shouldn't be that much of a surprise. Since losing his world heavyweight title to Klitschko in July the south Londoner has been pretty quiet, and although there hasn't yet been any official announcement from Haye himself, the British Boxing Board of Control said that he has quit the fight game.

'I received an email on Monday advising me Haye would not be carrying on,' said the organisation's secretary Robert Smith. 'The Board will discuss it on Wednesday but there is no way we could go against his wish not to renew his boxing licence. Without it, he can't fight.'
