Danny Cipriani left out of England Elite Squad

Danny Cipriani has been left out of England's 32-man Elite Squad to accommodate the fit again Jonny Wilkinson. The move is just the latest snub towards the talented 21-year-old Wasps fly-half by Martin Johnson and his management team.

Cipriani, who started the autumn internationals as England's first choice No.10, has instead been included in the Saxons squad. In contrast, Wilkinson became just one of two French based players, along with the Brive bound Riki Flutey, to be included in the squad while James Haskell, Andy Goode and Jamie Noon have all been dropped.

Martin Johnson spoke earlier today about the squad: "Our selections include players based in France and Rob Andrew and I have had extensive discussions with the French clubs, who have recruited English players and these have gone well."

"We are looking forward to continuing the positive working relationship with them, which worked so well last season," Johnson continued. "We will continue to monitor the form and fitness of the following players who were involved with England last season with a view to inviting them to training sessions as appropriate - Andy Goode, James Haskell, Tom May, Jamie Noon, Tom Palmer and Steve Thompson."
