Crouch pulls out of England squad

Peter Crouch has become the latest player to withdraw from the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland.

The Spurs striker has failed to recover from a rib injury that he picked up during the London club’s 1-0 loss to Wigan at the weekend.

Fabio Capello knew that Crouch was a doubt for the double header so he took the precaution of naming an extra striker in his 24-man squad.

Although the Italian lost Fulham striker Bobby Zamora to injury before the squad was announced he can still call on the services of Wayne Rooney, Carlton Cole, Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe.

England’s other injury concerns are at the back with John Terry and Rio Ferdinand both missing through injury and Everton’s Phil Jagielka struggling with an ankle problem.

Capello may be forced to field the inexperienced pairing of Matthew Upson and Michael Dawson at the centre of England’s back four.
