Crouch hat-trick leads Spurs to 5-1 win over Preston

Peter Crouch scored a hat-trick in Tottenham's 5-1 win over Preston at Deepdale last night in the Carling Cup. The England striker opened the scoring on 15-minutes with Jermain Defoe adding a second just before the break.

Crouch scored a second half brace with skipper Robbie Keane adding a fifth goal to pile the misery on Preston. Despite having to switch midfielder Tom Huddlestone to centre-back to try and plug the gaps left by the club's defensive crisis Spurs were too good for their Championship opposition.

Chris Brown scored a late consolation goal for North End but they failed to capitalize on hesitancy in the Tottenham goal by Heurelho Gomes. However, the Premier League side weathered the early storm and are still on course for their third successive Carling Cup final.
