Cristiano Ronaldo scoops Ballon d'Or

Cristiano Ronaldo scooped the Ballon d'Or last night hailing it as "one of the most beautiful days of my life" and has said that he will become an even better player.

The Portugal winger beat Lionel Messi and Fernando Torres picking up 446 points from a possible 480 after winning the Premier League and the Champions League last season as well as scoring an unbelievable 42 goals.

Ronaldo became only the third Portuguese player to pick up the prestigious award following in the footsteps of Eusebio and Luis Figo. The Manchester United winger is just the second Premiership player to win the award this decade after Michael Owen in 2001.
