Manchester City have set their sights on Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o, slapping down a £25.5million in their bid to take him from the European champions.
While the fee might not be as mental as it could be, the newly rich Citizens have put together a package that would make him the highest paid player in English football, with wages around £180,000 a week, according to the Guardian. Barca president Joan Laporta hinted that he might go, and if he did, they'd need to buy someone else (hint: David Villa from Valencia).
'Eto'o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best-paid player in the world,' he said in a hilariously repetitive quote. 'It's starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse. If Eto'o accepts this stratospheric offer, we will have to bring in someone. If Eto'o accepts Manchester City's mammoth offer, we will need another striker.'
