City bound

Manchester City’s plundering of the transfer market for attacking midfielders seems to be continuing apace. First they signed Spain left winger David Silva from Valencia, now they look set to grab England wide midfielder James Milner from Aston Villa.

Villa manager Martin O’Neill has more or less resigned himself to one of his key players of last season going in search of bigger money (and maybe a bigger stage) at City, saying that Milner himself wants to leave and that the only thing standing in his way is the two clubs agreeing a fee.

‘I had a conversation with James before the World Cup and he intimated that he'd like to go,’ said O'Neill. ‘I'd imagine things will be resolved in the foreseeable future. City made an offer but it did not meet our valuation. I'm sure matters will be resolved soon. James is back next week having had extended holiday.’
