Chelsea to break the bank for Ribery

Roman Abramovich is set to break the bank to bring Franck Ribery to Stamford Bridge. According to reports on the back pages Chelsea's billionaire owner is willing to pay £45m to sign the French winger from Bayern Munich either in January or during the summer.

Ribery was linked to a number of Europe's biggest clubs during the summer including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United but Bayern Munich made it clear that they were unwilling to sell the 26-year-old.

However, the France international's future at Bayern now appears uncertain with the Munich club languishing back in eighth place in the Bundesliga as well as looking set for an early exit form the Champions League.

The German giants slapped a £60m price tag on Ribery during the summer which Chelsea are said to be unwilling to pay. However, the player himself may be tempted to push for a move with The Blues reported to be offering a weekly salary of £200,000.
