Chelsea make £40m bid for David Villa

Chelsea are reported to have made an offer of £40m for Valencia and Spain striker David Villa who has also been subject of interest from Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

According to the Daily Mail, Roman Abramovich is ready to open his wallet and splash the cash on the 27-year-old hit-man. While Valencia are reluctant to sell their prize asset, the La Liga club is believed to have debts of up to £400m and needs to raise money quickly.

Barcelona are reported to be interested in bringing Villa to the Nou Camp to replace Samuel Eto'o who looks like he will leave the Catalan club during the summer, but they are facing competition from rivals Real Madrid. Los Blancos, however, are reported to be willing to pay no more than £32m for the Spanish striker leaving the door open for Chelsea.
