Chelsea make £31m bid for Ribéry

According to reports in today's Daily Mail Chelsea have made a £31m bid for the Bayern Munich and France player Franck Ribéry. Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon has already been in contact with the Bundesliga club over a possible transfer if the rumours are to be believed.

Ribéry was voted Bayern's Player of the Year after guiding the team to a league and Cup double. Jürgen Klinsmann is set to take over at the German champions next season and will want to hold on to the talented Frenchman ahead of Bayern's return to the Champions League.

Bayern bought Ribéry for £16m last year but his value has doubled after an outstanding first season in Germany. But Roman Abramovich is said to have decided on buying the player even if it means paying out more than the £31m he spent on Andriy Shevchenko. Ribéry lines out for France tonight and Bayern have said they will wait until the end of Euro 2008 to decide on the player's future.
