Chelsea look set to sign Villas-Boas

Ever since Carlo Ancelotti was sacked by Chelsea at the end of last season we have been under the impression that Guus Hiddink was going to take his place. Everything seemed to be in place, and given that Hiddink and Blues owner Roman Abramovich are buddies it seemed a sure thing that the Dutchman would take the reigns.

However it now appears that Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas is set to join the London club, after having resigned from his position. The Portuguese, who won the treble last year and is only 33 years old, has said that he will pay the £13.2million buy-out clause himself – where on earth did he find the money, hmm?

'FC Porto was today notified of the intention of Andre Villas-Boas to resign from his contract with the club by triggering the release clause immediately,' said Porto in a statement. 'The contract will be terminated once the required amount is paid.'
