Chelsea hammered Arsenal 4-1 at the Emirates this afternoon making sure of third place in the Premier League and guaranteeing Champions League football next season.
Despite starting well and going close early on through Theo Walcott and Alex Song the Gunners found themselves behind after 28 minutes. Brazilian centre back Alex got on the end of a Didier Drogba free-kick to give Chelsea the lead.
Before they had time to react Arsenal were 2-0 down following a brilliant individual effort from former Gunner Nicolas Anelka. Arsene Wenger was once again left fuming on the sidelines as he watched his team self destruct at the back four minutes into the second half when Kolo Toure diverted an Ashley Cole cross into his own net.
Nicklas Bendtner put his midweek trouser malfunction behind him to get the Gunners on the score sheet 20 minutes from time, but it was a false dawn and normal service was resumed when Florent Malouda scored the Blues' fourth five minutes from time.
