Chelsea beat United to Bosingwa's signature

While Chelsea lost out in the Premiership title race to Manchester United yesterday, they beat their rivals in the race for the signature of the Portugal international Jose Bosingwa.

Chelsea have confirmed that the player will sign from Porto after passing a medical. The Congo born Bosingwa, who can play at right back or on the wing, will cost Chelsea £16.2million of Roman's war chest. His arrival probably sounds the death knell for Julian Belletti as a Chelsea player.

Manchester United had been lining up Bosingwa as a long term replacement for Gary Neville. But with the Porto player set for Stamford bridge United are turning their attention to Manchester City's Micah Richards. Although the England international recently signed a new five-year contract, he is reported to be considering his options following the uncertainty surrounding the future of current City boss Sven Goran Eriksson.
