Chelsea beat Everton 1-0 while Grant's press conference is a farce

Chelsea beat Everton 1-0 last night at Goodison Park keeping their slim title hopes alive thanks to a Michael Essien goal in the first half. Missing a number of key players, Chelsea were unspectacular but ground out an important result.

It's been a slow week in sport, but the star of the back pages in the last seven days has undoubtedly been Chelsea boss Avram Grant. First his Chelsea side gave away a late goal to draw with Wigan, then Tal Ben Haim had a go at Grant in the press and again last night old Avram didn't disappoint.

The post-match press conference at Goodison Park descended into a farcical yes/no game with the Chelsea boss giving monosyllabic answers to reporters' questions. Grant is said to have been cheesed off at the reaction of the press after the draw with Wigan.

It looks as if Avram will be told to sling his hook in the summer even though his Chelsea side have only lost twice in 29 games. It has been interesting to watch how he has coped with taking over from Mourinho at Chelsea, at times it's been a bit like watching a reality show meltdown.

Even if he pulls off an unlikely Premiership and Champions League double Grant always looks destined to be George Lazenby to Mourinho's Sean Connery.
