Champions League draw

Yesterday saw the draw for the Champions League group stage, which saw some interesting match ups set up, and a group stage that for once doesn't look like it'll peter out into a series of boring dead rubbers.

The most interesting group is probably Group A, which sees new boys Manchester City line up against the old money of Bayern Munich, the sleeping giant Napoli, and er, Villareal. If we were one for clichés we'd call that the Group Of Death. Arsenal's group is also interesting, pairing them with the German champions Borussia Dortmund, while Manchester United and Chelsea got their usual easy draws.

'The football club is making history. It's the first time it's ever competed at this level and it's such an exciting time for everyone connected with the club to be sat in a room with some of the best teams in Europe and the world,' said Brian Marwood, Manchester City's football administrator. 'The ambition is to stay at that level. One thing this club has been over the years is inconsistent and we have to make sure we are coming back here year after year.'
