The draw for the group stages of the Champions League 2008/2009 took place yesterday afternoon in Monaco amongst the usual pomp and ceremony. It produced decent results for both Manchester United and Chelsea, but much tougher assignments for Arsenal and Liverpool.
Last year's winners United will face Scottish champions in Group E which also features Spanish side Villarreal and Denmark's Aalborg. Meanwhile losers, sorry runners-up, Chelsea are up against Italian club Roma, Bordeaux and Romanian side Cluj.
Arsenal were drawn in a difficult looking Group G which will see the London club pit their footballing wits against Porto, Fenerbahce and Dynamo Kiev. But it's Liverpool who were handed the toughest draw of the English clubs. Rafa Benitez's misfiring side will face Fernando Torres' former club Atletico Madrid, PSV Eindhoven and Marseille.
