Capello offers Scholes international return

Fabio Capello is set to offer Paul Scholes another chance to return to international football according to reports on the back pages today.

The England manager watched the 35-year-old midfielders shine in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Fulham at the weekend and wants to confirm if he would be interested in the upcoming taking part in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

Scholes turned down an offer to play in this summer’s World Cup claiming that he had been given just a couple of hours to decide if he wanted to come out of international retirement.

However, the midfielder later expressed regret at not travelling to South Africa citing Capello’s decision to ask his assistant Franco Baldini to make contact with the Manchester United veteran as disappointing.

‘I had only been given a couple of hours, so it was a bit of a rush job,’ Scholes said in an interview last week. ‘But the World Cup is the biggest tournament you can be involved in. I wish I had gone. I did feel as though I had made the wrong decision. There was a touch of regret, but it doesn't matter now. It's gone.’

Despite claiming that he would focus on developing young players following England’s poor showing in South Africa, it looks as if Capello will turn to a player who hasn’t represented England since Euro 2004 in Portugal.
