Capello hints that Owen's England career may be over
Michael Owen may have played his last game in an England shirt after Fabio Capello hinted that the striker's international career is over. The Newcastle United player is still only 29, but his career has been plagued by injury over the last couple of years.
Despite losing Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole through injury on Saturday night, Capello ruled out a call up for 40-goal man Owen. "I have to choose players to play against the Ukraine, not against history," the England boss said. "I have chosen the best players who are in good form at the moment."
When quizzed further about the Owen situation the Italian replied: "It is impossible to choose someone who has only played for 20 minutes. Why didn't he play the last game?" If Owen has worn the Three Lions for the last time it would be a sad end to an international career which promised so much.
