Capello calls up Gerrard despite injury
Fabio Capello looks to have further strained his fragile relationship with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez after calling up Steven Gerrard for Wednesday's friendly against Germany.
The midfielder had looked to be out of the match in Berlin with a muscle injury, but Capello insisted that the Liverpool captain reported to the national team's training camp last night before being assessed by England's medical staff.
Gerrard again showed on Saturday that he is key to the Reds' title hopes this season, so Benitez will be far from happy with Capello's decision. But with senior players such as Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, as well as Joe and Ashley Cole all set to miss the game, the England boss will be hoping that Gerrard will be able to take some part in the prestigious friendly.
