Campbell to train with Arsenal

Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is reported to have asked if he can train with the Premier League club just weeks after walking out of Notts County.

The 35-year-old joined the League Two club on a five-year deal but is currently unattached after asking to be released from his contract. With a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing the former England defender in January, Campbell is looking to keep fit until Notts County formally release him.

Arsenal centre-back Johan Djourou is out injured for the season so Campbell could even find himself lining out for the Gunners if they lose any more players at the back. It's not the first time that Arsene Wenger has helped out a veteran England international with David Beckham training with Arsenal last season during the MLS off season.

"It will be great to train here and get fit," Campbell told reporters. "I've spoken to Arsène, hopefully we can get everything right and speak to the right people and get a couple of the physios and fitness guys to help me and train. My overall fitness is OK. But something else might happen before then."
