British cycling gears up for Beijing
While we’ve all been agonising about whether our averagely good football team will ever again be slightly better than average, one group of British sportspeople has been quietly trouncing the rest of the world.
This weekend saw the end of the World Track Cycling Championships in Manchester, and the GB team dominated – as they did last time out in Malaga – winning more than half of all the events and coming out with 9 gold and 4 silver medals.
The stars were Bradley Wiggins, with 3 wins, and Victoria Pendleton, with 2 wins and a second place – there’s now no question that they’re the team to beat at the Olympics this year.
