Brian O'Driscoll named Six Nations player of 2009
Brian O'Driscoll has been named the Six Nations player of the year after leading Ireland to their first Grand Slam in 61 years. The outstanding centre rolled back the years to produce a number of vintage performances during the 2009 Championship.
O'Driscoll picked up over 30% of the public vote to top the poll ahead of Italy's Sergio Parisse and Ireland's Paul O'Connell. The short list of contenders was compiled by former internationals including Jason Leonard and Keith Wood.
"It has been such an immense week already and to be named the RBS Player of the Championship is a fantastic end to what has been a phenomenal Championship," O'Driscoll told reporters. The award is well deserved and the Ireland captain now looks set to be picked as Lions captain for the tour to South Africa.
