Brazil humiliated Italy this evening in their Confederations Cup group game with a stunning 3-0 victory in South Africa which sent the world champions crashing out of the tournament. Luis Fabiano grabbed a brace before the luckless Andrea Dossena put the ball into his own net in a devastating eight minute spell in the first-half for the Selecao.
The Azzurri were completely outplayed in all facets of the game in what was another
terrible performance just days after their 1-0 loss to Egypt. Veterans of the 2006 World Cup triumph such as Fabio Cannavaro and Gianluca Zambrotta looked well off the pace and tonight's game could sound the death knell for a number of international careers.
Furthermore, Marcello Lippi's decision to return to the fold as Italian manager looks to have been a big mistake; the former Juventus boss will have to blood some new talent sooner rather than later if Italy are to have any chance of defending their title next summer.
