Brazil and Italy make winning starts in Beijing
The male football tournament at the Beijing Olympics got under way this morning a day ahead of tomorrow's opening ceremony. Brazil were made to work hard to in their first game, recording a 1-0 win over nine-man Belgium.
Hernandes got the all important goal for a Brazil team featuring the AC Milan duo Ronaldinho and Pato. Vincent Kompany and Marouane Fellaini were sent off for the Belgians, but the Seleção struggled to exploit their numerical advantage.
Italy beat Honduras 3-0 thanks to a brilliant strike from Sebastien Giovinco and a penalty a piece from Giuseppe Rossi and Roberto Acquafresco. Elsewhere, the United States beat japan 1-0 thanks to a Stuart Holden goal while Australia and Serbia played out a 1-1 draw.
