Blackburn turn down £20m bid for Roque Santa Cruz

Blackburn Rovers are reported to have turned down a £20m bid for striker Roque Santa Cruz by the Premier League's big spenders Manchester City.

Mark Hughes was hoping to sign the Paraguay international for the second time in two years, but Rovers seem reluctant to sell their top scorer. The City manager told reporters: "We have made an improved bid, a substantial bid for Roque Santa Cruz but it was rejected".

"We still want to bring him to the club if we can but he is Blackburn’s player and they don't want to deal at the level we have made a bid at." Hughes also confirmed that West Ham have turned down City's offer for midfielder Scott Parker, although that looks like something of a blessing in disguise.
