Blackburn Rovers 1 West Ham 1

Junior Stanislas earned West Ham a vital away point against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park with a 78th minute equaliser.

Ryan Nelson had put Blackburn ahead after 51 minutes with a scrappy goal and it looked as if The Hammers were staring another defeat in the face despite having been the more creative of the two teams.

Matthew Upson and Frederic Piquionne both went close to pulling a goal back for West Ham and the London club fully deserved their equaliser when it came.

Scott Parker’s storming run into the box was halted by Gael Givet, but the Blackburn defender inadvertently diverted the ball into the path of Stanislas who rifled a shot past Paul Robinson.

Both teams pushed hard for the win in the last ten minutes and David Dunn thought he had snatched a winner for Rovers only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

The result should take some of the pressure off West Ham manager Avram Grant following a week of speculation that he would be replaced by former Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce.
