Benitez: United know we're better than them

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has launched another attack on his Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson. According to the Spaniard Ferguson recognises that "Liverpool are the better side".

Benitez's broadside is just the latest in a litany of high profile outbursts this season by the Liverpool boss. Despite the evidence on the contrary, the Spaniard claimed that he is not attempting to start a war of words with Fergie.

"I'm not having a battle of words with Alex Ferguson," Benitez told Spanish daily ABC. "But I believe that he can see that we are the better side, and that we are very close to United. He has been accustomed to playing these types of mind games for many years. Nobody has ever said anything against him, or stood up to him, as he has a very good team that can win trophies. It seems like he has a licence to do these sorts of things."

Liverpool currently trail United by three points having played one game more than their title rivals, but Benitez is still hopeful that his side can win the Premier League for the first time in eighteen years: "It is essential for us to try to keep the pressure on United. We must not slacken off, and if we keep going that will make them feel under pressure."
