Benitez: Robbie Keane has a future at Liverpool
Rafael Benítez has assured Robbie Keane that he has a future at Liverpool. The £20.3m summer signing was dropped to the bench for Saturday's win over Blackburn, but is set to start tonight against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Keane has scored just four goals since his arrival at Anfield where he hoped to play alongside Fernando Torres, but the former Spurs' hitman has been largely forced to play as a lone striker. There have also been rumours that Tottenham are set to make a January bid to resign the Irish striker.
Benítez was quick to quash the speculation: "We don't want to sell Robbie. I was surprised when someone told me about the rumours. We are not thinking about selling. Always at the beginning it is not easy and when someone moves to a top side it is more difficult."
But the Spaniard made it clear that he expects more from his big summer signing: "I think he knows we have confidence in him, but he knows also he is not playing at his level. You cannot give a player with his experience too many messages. He knows he has to perform well and he will be there."
