Benítez launches blistering attack on Ferguson
Rafael Benítez has launched a blistering attack today on Sir Alex Ferguson accusing the Manchester United manager of influencing referees and the Premier League fixture list.
The Liverpool boss told reporters that Ferguson is the "the only manager who will not be punished" for having a go at a referee before accusing him of "killing" the FA's Respect campaign. The Spaniard's outburst had echoes of Kevin Keegan's famous rant from ten years ago.
Benítez was also quick to criticize the pressure put on referees by United staff members: "We know what happens every time we go to Old Trafford. They are always going man to man with the referees, especially at half-time when they walk close to the referees and they are talking and talking".
