Ben Foster to join Birmingham City from Manchester United

England international goalkeeper Ben Foster looks set to make a £6m switch from Manchester United to Birmingham City after successfully completing a medical at the Midlands club.

Foster was widely expected to takeover from Edwin van der Sar as United’s first-choice keeper this season. However, his season was punctuated by a number of high-profile mistakes against Manchester City and Sunderland.

Fabio Capello also gave Foster a number of chances to stake his claim as England’s No.1 and the Manchester United player appeared to be a certainty to make the World Cup squad. However, the 27-year-old was omitted from the provisional England squad announced last week.

Foster joined United from Watford in 2005 but has decided that he has no future at Old Trafford. Birmingham are looking to replace Joe Hart who is set to return to Manchester City following his season-long loan.
