According to the Daily Mail, David Beckham wants to be captain England again. The LA Galaxy midfielder captained England in the recent friendly against Trinidad & Tobago after giving up the armband following the ill fated 2006 World Cup.
Fabio Capello has rotated the captaincy since he took over with John Terry, Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand all leading the team. The Italian is set to name his permanent captain in autumn ahead of the World Cup qualifiers. Speaking to reporters Beckham stated that he is more experienced now and wouldn't be able to turn down the possibility to captain England if Capello handed him the armband.
After picking up his landmark 100th cap and moving to the MLS most commentators believed that Beckham's international career was all but finished. But while the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player could feature in England's qualifying campaign for South Africa 2010, it's unlikely that Beckham will be named captain ahead of the other candidates.
