Beckham sees red in Seattle

David Beckham's time at the LA Galaxy has gone from bad to worse after he was sent off during his side's 2-0 loss away to the Seattle Sounders. The England midfielder was given a straight red following a dangerous tackle on opponent Peter Vagenas after 17 minutes.

However, on the positive side for Becks, who earns an estimated £25m per year, he will serve just a one-match ban and be fined a paltry £150. The former Manchester United player was booed from the pitch but insists that there was no malice in his challenge.

'Pete is one of my best friends,' Goldenballs told the Galaxy's website. 'I think it's a hard tackle but not with means for a red card. I've never gone in one tackle wanting to hurt someone. The referee saw it differently.'

Beckham has had a difficult time since returning to the MLS following the end of his loan spell with AC Milan including an angry exchange with a fan as well as a falling out with teammate Landon Donovan.
