Bayern Munich reject Chelsea's £40m Ribery bid

Bayern Munich are reported to have rejected a bid of £40m from Chelsea for France midfielder Franck Ribery. The Bundesliga club have made it clear that they don't want to sell the 26-year-old but Carlo Ancelotti is looking to bring in one big name ahead of his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues now appear favourite to sign Ribery if Bayern do finally decide to sell him, with fellow admirers Manchester United and Real Madrid said to have been put off by the French international's price tag.

Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that the club have received an offer from the Blues: "Chelsea have lodged a bid. I don't want to talk about sums of money because it is not in our interest. The amount is irrelevant. There is always going to be the perception that Bayern Munich are trying to push the price up and that there is a certain value at which we'll have to accept, but I'll say it again: we want to keep Ribéry. "

The Guardian claims that Portugal defender Jose Bosingwa could be used as a makeweight in any deal. With Deco and Ricardo Carvalho set to join former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, Chelsea look set to sign Daniel Sturridge and Yuri Zhirkov from Manchester City and CSKA Moscow respectively.
