Bayern Munich 2 Manchester United 1

Bayern Munich came from 1-0 down to beat Manchester United 2-1 in their Champions League quarterfinal at the Allianz Arena tonight.

Wayne Rooney had put United ahead on 2 minutes when his marker Demichelis slipped leaving the England to volley home from six yards out.

However, the Premier League side appeared to sit back and the Bundesliga side took control of the game from the end of the first half onwards.

Franck Ribery gave veteran defender Gary Neville a difficult evening and the French international got Bayern back on level terms 13 minutes from time when his free-kick from the edge of the area deflected off Rooney and past Edwin van der Sar.

With the teams looking set to share the spoils United switched off at the back in injury time allowing Ivica Olic to steal in between Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand before firing home from close range.

To compound the defeat Rooney had to be helped off the pitch with a suspected ankle injury and could now miss Chelsea’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.
