Barcelona officials arrive for Fabregas talks

Barcelona’s attempt to sign Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal appears to have moved to the next level with the Catalan club’s vice-president Josep María Bartomeu and director of football Raul Sanllehi flying to London to negotiate a deal for the 24-year-old midfielder.

After securing the services of Alex Sanchez for next season Barcelona now appear to be focusing their attention on signing Fabregas. Reports this morning suggest that the European champions have made a £33 million bid for the Spanish international.

Arsenal, however, have repeatedly made it clear that they are unwilling to sell their captain for less than £40 million and are said to be frustrated at Barcelona’s failure to make a realistic bid for their prize asset.

Fabregas has yet to hand in an official transfer request although he was absent from the club’s pre-season games in Malaysia and China and pulled out of their trip to Germany this weekend through injury suggesting that his time at the Emirates could be coming to an end.

Barcelona appear to be hoping that the player himself can help to push through the move at a lower price than Arsenal’s £40 million valuation. Although they completed a domestic and European double last season the Catalan club have a summer budget of £45 million.

Sanchez cost Barcelona £25 million from Udinese and despite selling Bojan Krkic to Roma for £12 million it appears that their only chance of bringing Fabregas back to his boyhood club will be through negotiating a reduced price.
