Balotelli inspires City to victory over West Brom

Manchester City beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 this afternoon in a game which saw £24m signing Mario Balotelli announce his arrival in the Premier League.

The Italian international showed both sides of his character bagging an excellent first-half brace before receiving his marching orders for kicking Youssouf Mulumbu later in the game.

Balotelli’s first goal was a tap-in from a Carlos Tevez cross, but his second underlined why he is considered one of the most talented young players in world football.

Controlling a David Silva through ball, Balotelli shrugged off the attentions of Gabriel Tamas before firing past Scott Carson in the West Brom goal.

Earlier in the game City manager Roberto Mancini was seen trying to calm his young compatriot down after Balotelli had been booked for dissent, but ultimately the former Inter Milan player failed to keep his aggression in check.

The sending off will be a blow for Mancini as Balotelli has played very little football since his move to City due to a knee injury. The striker will now miss Wednesday’s derby with United as well as the games against Birmingham and Fulham.
