Bale not for sale

Harry Redknapp has said that he has no intention of selling his star player Gareth Bale after a rip-roaring hat-trick from the Welsh winger salvaged some pride for Tottenham Hotspur at the San Siro last night.

Spurs were losing 4-0 and down to ten men at half-time in their Champions League clash with Internazionale in Milan, and were staring at the prospect of an even heavier defeat square in the face. However, they somehow recovered and could even have taken the most unlikely of points thanks to Bale, who has announced himself as a big-time player on the European stage. As such, Redknapp has made it very clear he wants to keep hold of him.

‘Tottenham is a club that is looking to progress, not to sell its best players,’ Redknapp said. ‘Selling him would send out the wrong signals. It would make us a selling club. We have to build a team around him and if Tottenham can progress to become a regular Champions League team, he would be a big part of that.

‘He just gets on with it, you couldn't meet a nicer boy. He's happy where he is. There's no way the club should or would contemplate selling him, certainly not in the near future. We should be looking to build the team, not to sell if we get a good offer for one of our best players’
