Back in it

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that Chelsea are in fact back in with a shout of winning the title, after beating Birmingham City 3-1 at Stamford Bridge last night.

In a season in which Chelsea have disappointed more than they’ve exhilarated, and in which they’ve put in some truly comic performances, they find themselves in second place, only six points behind league leaders Manchester United and with huge clash at Old Trafford coming up on 8 May. In that time United will also have to play Arsenal and their two Champions league games with Schalke 04. The season isn’t quite over yet, it seems.

‘If we'd thought that, one month ago, we'd have a little chance to come back to fight for the title, everyone would have said we were crazy,’ admitted Ancelotti. ‘Now we are second and I've learned that anything can happen in this game until the referee blows his final whistle. You can win the title in the last minute.

‘You can lose the title in the last minute. Obviously I would like to be in United's position, six points ahead with five games to play. But everything is still open.’
