Babel's Liverpool future in doubt after walkout

Ryan Babel's Liverpool future appears in doubt after the Holland winger stormed out of the Premier League club's training ground at Melwood without seeking permission. The walkout happened after the winger was told he would to be the makeweight in a loan deal for Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones.

According to reports on the back pages Benitez informed the former Ajax player of the proposed swap deal yesterday morning. Believing he was no longer wanted at Anfield, Babel is said to have left training following his meeting with the Liverpool boss and was eventually tracked down by a member of the backroom staff.

The news comes just days after Babel hit the headlines for questioning his treatment by Benitez via everyone's favourite mini-blogging site Twitter. The Spaniard responded by challenging the striker to prove his worth to the team.

'I was talking with Ryan one week ago and I explained the situation very clearly to him. After the meeting everything was fine. He was working and he was on the bench and he played against Reading,' Benitez said. 'After this game I decided he would not be on the bench and that is it. If Ryan trains hard and is ready to play he will be available. If not, he won't be available.'

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, however, has turned down the offer although Benitez could return with a cash offer if he can offload Babel as he looks to provide cover for the injury ravaged Fernando Torres.
