Avram Grant close to West Ham deal

Avram Grant looks set to become the new West Ham manager after Portsmouth made it clear that they won’t seek a compensation deal.

Portsmouth gave Grant permission to speak to West Ham co-owner David Sullivan and the former Chelsea boss looks set to sign a three-year deal with the London club.

Gianfranco Zola was sacked as Hammers boss last week following a difficult season while Grant guided Portsmouth to the FA Cup final despite the club almost going into administration.

Grant is available to join West Ham on a free after working for free at Portsmouth for several months due to the side’s ongoing financial problems.

A number of Portsmouth players could also make the move to Upton Park with Jamie O’Hara and David James topping Grant’s wish list.
