Avram Grant becomes Portsmouth manager

Portsmouth have today appointed Avram Grant as their new manager. The former Chelsea boss, who has been the Director Of Football at Portsmouth since October will take up his new role as soon as his work permit is amended, in time for Portsmouth's home clash against Premiership champions Manchester United.

‘Avram knows the club, players and set-up so it was logical to make him manager," said the club’s chief executive Peter Storrie. ‘He’s a very experienced and respected manager who has managed at the highest level’.

The 54 year old Israeli’s first football job England was in 2007 when he became Technical Director at Pompey, a role that only lasted a few months thanks to a lucrative offer to take over from Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. Avram later led the London club to a Premiership runners up medal and Champions League runner up medal.

Top of Avram’s agenda will be to improve on Portsmouth footballing form this season, which has seen them only get seven points from their 13 games, leaving them at the foot of the table.
