England lost 28-14 to Australia at Twickenham in Martin Johnson's second match as manager. Ill-discipline cost England dear, with Matt Giteau scoring 20 points with the boot.
Nick Easter scored a try early in the second half to give England a 14-12 lead at the start of the second half but Giteau penalised the home side's constant infringing at the break down before Adam Ashley-Cooper made sure of an Australian win with a late try.
England tried to play to their strengths, keeping the ball in the forwards and were rewarded for their efforts when Easter rumbled over for a try. The result will have been something of a reality check for Johnson and his England team after last week's win over the Pacific Islanders.
