Aston Villa reject Liverpool's Barry bid
Aston Villa have rejected Liverpool's latest bid for England midfielder Gareth Barry. But Rafael Benitez is still optimistic about signing the Aston Villa captain ahead of next season.
It's believed that Liverpool's third bid for Barry was in the region of £13m. But Martin O'Neill is reluctant to let Barry leave Villa and will hold out for a figure of £15m. Liverpool had been hoping to raise transfer funds through the dale of Xavi Alonso to Juventus but that deal seems to be no closer to being confirmed.
Speaking to BBC yesterday O'Neill said that he had spoken to Barry and the player had confirmed his interest in a summer move to Liverpool where he would be guaranteed Champions League football.
But the £15m fee asked for by Villa would leave Rafael Benítez with only £5m to buy other players so it remains to be seen if Liverpool will be willing to meet Villa's asking price .
