Aston Villa and Everton draw 3-3

Aston Villa and Everton played out a pulsating 3-3 draw this afternoon at Villa Park. The game was a brilliant advert for Premier League football but all but killed off Villa's hopes of a top four finish this season.

With Arsenal having won yesterday Martin O'Neill knew his side needed to win in order to keep their slim chances of a Champions League place alive. Everton, however, were not in an obliging mood and stormed to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Marouane Fellaini and Tim Cahill.

John Carew pulled a goal back for Villa before half time following some good work by James Milner. But it was Everton who drew first blood in the second half with a brilliant individual goal from Steven Pienaar.

The points looked to be slipping away from Villa when Milner again put his mark on the game. The former Leeds player curled a long-range free-kick around the Everton wall and into the back of the net. Gareth Barry made it 3-3 ten minutes later from the penalty spot and there was even time for substitute Nathan Delfouneso to go close to stealing all 3 points for the Villains.
