Ashley Young replaces injured Gerrard for England friendly

Fabio Capello has handed Ashley Young his first England start against Holland tonight in Amsterdam following Steven Gerrard's withdrawal from the squad through injury.

The Aston Villa winger will start on the left of a front three alongside either Carlton Cole or Emile Heskey with Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry anchoring central midfield.

Despite his inexperience at international level Capello is confident that Young will be able to step up to the mark: "It will be a good test for him," the England manager said. "He has only played twice for me but the last time he did very well. I have watched him recently and he is in good form at the moment."

Robert Green will start between the sticks in place of the injured pair David James and Ben Foster. Capello underlined his faith in the West Ham goalkeeper.
