The soap opera that is Newcastle United looks set to continue with the news that owner Mike Ashley has put the club up for sale. The Toon Army have being calling for Ashley to leave ever since Kevin Keegan walked away from the club last week.
Ashley made a public statement last night defending his time in charge at Newcastle and explaining his reasons for putting the club up for sale. The billionaire owner of Sports Direct claims that he has decided to sell up because "you [the fans] want me out".
The Guardian, however, reports that Ashley has been looking for potential buyers for the club for some months. Dubai International Capital have been mentioned, but it seems that they are not interested in any deal. With the team losing 2-1 at home to newly promoted Hull yesterday these are dark days indeed for Newcastle fans.
