Arshavin to make Arsenal debut against Sunderland
Russia international Andrei Arshavin is set to make his Arsenal début tomorrow against Sunderland. Arsene Wenger confirmed that the club's record signing will take part in the match after being left on the bench for the north London derby against Tottenham.
"He [Arshavin] will be involved," Wenger told reporters. "But I have not decided what I will do with him yet." The former Zenit St Petersburg midfielder hasn't played a competitive match since the end of the Russian league in November and is still not match fit.
"He is still working on preparation and he is not qualified for the game against Roma so we can give him another week of hard work," the Arsenal boss said. "At the end of next week, that will be three weeks with us and one week with Zenit, that should be enough."
But Wenger also underlined that Arshavin will need time to adapt to the Premier League as well as Arsenal's style of play: "You have to give everybody who comes in time to adapt, to adjust. The handicap he has at the moment is that he is not completely fit physically, but all the rest should be quite quick."
